Commodore - Sailing Development Manager
My role on the Committee is to coordinate the development of Worthing Sailing club. Gaining sponsorship, coordinating Open Days, encouraging training and aligning what we do with what members want. This involves Liaising with the RYA, tourist information, local press, and local authorities, for mutual benefit.
Rear Commodore - Club Bosun
I started sailing in 1979 when a work colleague said he was selling a boat called a Topper. Well I bought it and taught myself to sail at Chipstead, near to where I lived in Beckenham. We moved to Worthing soon after and I progressed to sail a Laser. I entered open meetings and National Championships and became Laser Class Captain. Over the years I have had an Iso, a Lark, a Spice and a full on twin trapeze mad monohull with wings called a Boss. After serving on the committee for 5 years I became Commodore in 1989 and bought a Dart 18. Having served my time as a Jaguar car mechanic it seemed only right that I should look after our 4 rescue boats/tractor and engines and I am now the Club Bosun.
I have been a member of Worthing Sailing Club on and off since 1985 with a 10 year gap in between spent freezing on the side of football and rugby pitches. As sailing secretary it is my role to promote sailing in general with the main focus on organising and ensuring the smooth running of the racing program. I sail a Dart 18 and am at the club (hopefully racing) most Sundays in the season. PS - I can always be bribed with a pint.
Clubhouse and Boat Park Maintenance Manager
I have been a member of Worthing Sailing Club since March 2008. As a family we have enjoyed many weekends sailing. Its a great family club and we have made some very good friends. I am responsible for the maintenance at the club, so if there is anything that needs addressing feel free to come and have a chat, you will probably find me propping up the bar with Nigel after a good days sailing.
Membership Secretary - Boat Space Manager
I became a member of Worthing Sailing Club when my wife bought me a boat and club membership when it was both the club's and my 50th birthday year in 2007. As Membership Secretary, people seem to want to disappear as I approach - I can't think why! If however you want to give me money and completed membership forms on club days, I would very much appreciate it if you would see me in the clubhouse AFTER racing, not in the boat park as I am trying to get onto the water - the forms can get quite illegible if I've kept them stuffed in my splash top!!!
Hi, I'm Gail and I am the sailing clubs social secretary. I have helped and lead this roll with different members for last 6yrs. I decided to step down last year and let someone else have a go in which they had a fab year. I have decided to give it another go this year and get the club buzzing in our fantastic new club. If you would like to help out or have a great idea for a social event then please come have a chat with me or you can email me email@example.com. We have a great club and we do have great adult only eves as well as having lots of great family fun evenings, we want to see all the members old, young and new in the sailing club having fun whether it be sailing or at one of the social events.
