The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).
SIGNING ON All competitors are required to sign on before going racing.
NOTICES TO COMPETITORS Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board located in entrance lobby.
CHANGES TO THE SAILING PROGRAMME Any change to the sailing programme will be posted on the official notice board 6 days before it will take effect. They will also be emailed to all sailing members.
SCHEDULE OF RACES Will be described on the club web site and through the weekly email to members.
CLASS FLAGS Class flags will be described on the Official Notice Board.
RACING AREA The Racing Area is to the South and East of the club house. Courses should avoid the motor boat ramp to the West of the club.
The courses to be sailed will be displayed on the course board in the lobby.
Changes to the courses will be indicated by flag L being flown as described in The Racing Rules of Sailing accompanied by four short sound signals.
MARKS Marks will be cylindrical orange buoys and/or pink mooring buoys.
There are two starting procedures used at the Club. Flag Signals as described in RRS 26 and Light Signals as described in SI 11.3. The starting procedure will be indicated on the Notice Board.
If the Light Signals are being used and fail, the starting procedure will revert to Flag Signals.
The Light Signals starting procedure will be as follows:
5 minutes to start, the East white light will be displayed + 1 sound signal
4 minutes to start, the East and West white light will be displayed + 1 sound signal
1 minute to start, the West white light is extinguished + 1 sound signal
START, East light is extinguished + 1 sound signal
Club House start line will be between the main mast on the club house and a buoy as described on the course board.
Committee boat start line will be between the main mast on the vessel and a buoy as described on the course board.
The finishing line will be described on the course board.
If average lap racing has been prescribed on the course board, the finish will be signalled by the flying of a spherical shape under the class flag accompanied by 2 sound signals. A yacht finishes when it next passes through the finish line.
PENALTY SYSTEM Rule 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty.
Time limit for a race is one hour and thirty minutes. The race shall be valid for all yachts who finish within this time limit.
There will be no time limit for long distance races.
PROTESTS AND REQUESTS FOR REDRESS
Protest forms are available at the race office. Protests and requests for redress or reopening shall be delivered there within the appropriate time limit.
The protest time limit is 60 minutes after the last boat has finished the last race of the day.
Notices will be posted no later than 30 minutes after the protest time limit to inform competitors of hearings in which they are parties or named as witnesses. Hearings will be held in the protest room, located at in the race office.
Notices of protests by the race committee or protest committee will be posted to inform boats under rule 61.1(b).
The scoring system is as follows: Low Points Scoring System.
RRS A4.2 is amended as follows. Did not finish (DNF) and Retired (RTD) shall receive points equal to the number of finishers of the race + one. Did not start (DNS) Disqualified (DSQ) shall receive points equal to the number of yachts entered into the series + one.
When fewer than 3 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.
When from 4 to 6 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
When from 7 to 10 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her two worst scores.
When from 11 to 12 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her three worst scores.
When 13 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her four worst scores.
To request correction of an alleged error in posted race or series results, a boat may complete a scoring enquiry form available at the race office.
Competitors completing a sailing duty as defined in the Worthing Sailing Club Rules will be awarded average points for the races completed on the day of their duty if they are part of a series.
A boat that retires from a race shall notify the race committee as soon as possible.
All yachts shall sign a declaration within one hour of the finish of the last race indicating that they have finished the race(s) or retired. Failure to comply may result in disqualification.
REPLACEMENT OF CREW OR EQUIPMENT
Substitution of a crew is allowed. A Dart 18 helm may sail with a crew and single handed in a series and be counted as the same entry.
Substitution of a helm is not allowed.
Substitution of damaged or lost equipment is allowed.
Five or more yachts in the same class will be considered a separate fleet and will have separate results posted for the series.
Two or more yachts from any one class need to start a race for it to be valid. Any class with only one starter in a race will result in that race being deemed void for that class.

INSURANCE Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability.
