The First RYA Safety Course at Worthing Sailing Club

As the bug season came to a close, the focus of the Worthing Sailing Club training team swiftly shifted towards preparations for the next season. A significant milestone was reached as the club proudly delivered its first-ever RYA-approved Safety Boat Course, marking a new chapter in our training journey.

The course, filled with enthusiasm and dedication, was expertly led by Phil Selwood, Nigel Jupp, and Tim Horlock. These gentlemen went above and beyond, even guiding participants through the chilly October waters for the essential (and exhilarating) capsize drills. A huge thanks to Phil, Nigel, and Tim for generously giving up their weekend to make this course possible.

We are also thrilled to congratulate the six dinghy instructors who attendedand successfully passedthe course. Well done to Archie, Hanna, Josh, Noah, and Liz for their hard work and commitment to improving their safety skills.

The primary goal of the course was to further refine the skills and mindset required to efficiently rescue and recover both people and boats from the seaparticularly in the unique conditions we often encounter at Worthing Sailing Club.

Looking ahead, we're excited to open up this course to more members in the new year. To participate, you must have your PB2 qualification, so get ready to jump on board!

In the near term, we have some fantastic training opportunities coming up. This Saturday 12th October, we'll be hosting a Dinghy Instructor Development Day, followed by a Tractor Driving and Patrol Boat Training Day on October 19th.
